I recently saw American Hustle and fell in love with the production design. Production designer, Judy Becker, absolutely nailed the late 70s and early 80s style of Midtown Manhattan. Her sets are exquisite and help transport the audience into this crazy world. I chose to focus on two sets in particular, Sydney Prosser's (played by Amy Adams) living room and Rosalyn Rosenfeld's (played by Jennifer Lawrence) master bedroom.
Sydney Prosser's bachelorette pad was inspired by "White Brick" apartment buildings on the Upper East Side. The art department built the set on a sound stage and chose a minimalistic look with a few vintage elements here and there. Rosalyn Rosenfeld's master bedroom is a more eccentric look. The art department completely redecorated this ranch home and added vintage foil pattern wallpaper, 70s style carpet, and certain period elements like the vibrate bedding, massive lamps, and gaudy headboard.
So, are you an Amy Adams or a Jennifer Lawrence?
Cheers!
